DHS Engineering - Capabilities/Test

As a capable, flexible, and efficient research and development laboratory, DHSE has the tools and expertise to conduct a wide range of experimental testing. The wide range of capability allows us to test and develop low-voltage single cells through high-voltage battery packs:

Voltage range: 100 mV to 1000 V
Current range: 100 mA to 1000 A
Frequency range: 10 mHz to many MHz
Logging periods: 1 ms to many weeks (e.g. hydrogen combustion vs. battery self-discharge)
Temperature range: -73 ºC to +190 ºC (-100 ºF to +375 ºF)
Half-cell voltage to independently measure the positive and negative electrodes
Teardown and failure analysis of cells

DHS Engineering - Capabilities/Test

Capabilities for the development of battery energy storage and hydrogen projects:

Custom battery test units designed, developed and fabricated in-house to suite the application. We base our custom units on dataloggers with excellent logging and control capabilities.

Control algorithms are developed and implemented through computer code. Charge and discharge capabilities are designed to meet the specifications.

Low-speed (1 Hz) datalogging is handled by dataloggers with sufficient measurement capability.

The specific logger is chosen to meet the requirements and typically include 16 to 60 input measurements and 8 to 16 output controls.

High-speed (kHz to MHz) datalogging is handled by digital recording oscilloscopes and high speed sensors (e.g. optical).

A large thermal chamber (over 1 m3 volume) is employed to test battery packs over the entire range of conditions expected in operation. Typical testing is completed from -30 ºC to +70 ºC.

A vehicle lift is used to remove and install battery packs within electric vehicles.
