CCWF: Developing a Community Owned Wind Field

The Colchester-Cumberland Wind Field Inc. (CCWF) is a Nova Scotia corporation with operations in Colchester and Cumberland Counties. The CCWF is a community owned business bringing economic benefit and environmental pride to the region.

The CCWF has a long term land lease for wind power on Spiddle Hill, near Tatamagouche, Colchester County. Wind data has been measured for over two years and is of commercial quality. Recently, the CCWF has signed a 20-year agreement with Nova Scotia Power for the sale of all the electricity generated. The estimated project cost is $2.3 million, and it is expected to be in revenue service by July 2011.

The CCWF is issuing shares under Nova Scotia's Community Economic Development Investment Fund (CEDIF), providing significant tax incentives for investors. The purchase of CCWF shares (cash or self-directed RRSP) is eligible for a non-refundable Nova Scotia income tax credit of 35%. Providing certain conditions are met, additional Nova Scotia tax credits of 20% and 10% occur at the 5 and 10 year anniversary of the original share purchase. The minimum purchase for new investors is 2000 shares at $1.50 per share ($3,000). During this offering of shares, the CCWF anticipates typical individual investments in the range of $6,000 to $30,000.
